Oil Crisis Drives EV Demand: EVAT Proposes 5 Policy Measures

On April 2, 2026, Krisada Uttamote, honorary advisor of the Electric Vehicle Association of Thailand (EVAT), appeared on Channel 3's Krob Krua Khao news program to discuss the oil crisis and its impact on consumer behavior.
He noted that rising fuel costs have significantly increased consumer interest in electric vehicles, driven by long-term energy cost savings and value. To capitalize on this shift, EVAT presented five policy proposals to the government for systematic development of Thailand's EV industry.

- Promote domestic parts production to strengthen the local supply chain.
- Develop public charging infrastructure to support widespread EV adoption.
- Ensure long-term sustainability of the EV ecosystem through comprehensive planning.
- Provide consumer incentives to accelerate adoption.
- Support research and development for EV technology.
The proposals aim to create a robust and self-sustaining EV industry in Thailand, reducing dependence on imported oil and fostering economic growth.
