EVAT Proposes Domestic Supply Chain Development at BAQ 2026

On March 11, 2026, Assistant Professor Dr. Uthen Supatti, Vice President of Academic and Personnel Development of the Electric Vehicle Association of Thailand (EVAT), spoke at the Better Air Quality Conference (BAQ 2026) in Bangkok. The session, titled “E-Mobility for Clean Air, Jobs, and Economic Growth: Evidence, Barriers, and Pathways to Scale,” was part of the conference held from March 11–13 at the UN Conference Centre.

Dr. Uthen represented EVAT and shared an industry perspective. He noted that while EV adoption in Thailand is growing rapidly, a major challenge is the lack of a domestic parts supply base. Critical components such as batteries, power electronics, and control systems are still imported, which increases production costs and hinders technology development.

To address this, he proposed that e-mobility expansion should prioritize developing the domestic supply chain. This includes joint ventures and technology transfer between Thai entrepreneurs and technology owners, alongside stronger collaboration between industry and educational institutions. The goal is to build a robust and sustainable EV ecosystem for the future.
