MG Helps SAIC Become First Chinese Carmaker to Sell 100 Million Vehicles Globally

By Paul

MG Thailand has announced that its parent company, SAIC Motor Corporation, has become the first Chinese automaker to achieve cumulative global deliveries of 100 million vehicles. The milestone was reached in early 2026, driven by strong performance across brands, joint ventures, new energy vehicles, and international markets.

Record Sales in China and Abroad

In the first four months of 2026, SAIC's brands—including MG, Roewe, IM, Maxus, and Wuling—sold over 910,000 vehicles, up 6.9% year-on-year, accounting for 69.9% of total sales. In China alone, SAIC maintained the top sales position for four consecutive months, with April sales reaching 328,000 units and cumulative sales hitting 1.302 million units.

Internationally, SAIC sold 459,000 vehicles in overseas markets in the first four months of 2026, a 50.2% increase. In 2025, total exports reached 1.07 million units, pushing cumulative exports past 6 million units.

MG's Global and Thai Performance

MG, as SAIC's global brand, led sales in Europe with 120,000 units in the first four months of 2026, maintaining its position as the top-selling Chinese brand in the region. In Thailand, MG registered 10,953 vehicles in the same period, a 76% surge year-on-year. Key models include the NEW MG4 ELECTRIC, NEW MG S5 EV PLUS, MG IM6, MG IM5, and e-MPVs like NEW MG MAXUS 7 and NEW MG MAXUS 9.

Technology-Driven Growth

SAIC attributes its success to a "Technology-Driven Growth" strategy, focusing on core technologies such as the Hybrid+ system and Stellar Super Range Extender. The company aims to avoid price wars by building hard-to-copy innovations.

MG Thailand continues its GLOCAL strategy under the "IN THAILAND FOR THAILAND" philosophy, emphasizing quality growth. Upcoming launches include the NEW MG URBAN, an electric hatchback targeting modern lifestyles. MG also offers an EV LIFETIME WARRANTY covering high-voltage batteries, drive motors, and motor controllers, with no mileage or ownership restrictions.

Mr. Ta Shen Shen, Managing Director of SAIC Motor-CP Co., Ltd., stated that MG aims to become a top-5 automotive brand in Thailand within its second decade, driven by smart mobility and customer satisfaction measured by "MG SMILE."
