MG Thailand Highlights Battery Safety with Thermal Management Innovation

MG Thailand (SAIC Motor-CP and MG Sales Thailand) has announced advanced battery safety standards for all locally assembled electric vehicles. The company emphasizes thermal management innovation to prevent thermal runaway and protect battery circuits from external conditions.

Battery Structure and Thermal Management

The battery pack uses a multi-layer extruded aluminum frame combined with reinforced steel to absorb impact energy. Thermal insulation aerogel and phase change material walls can withstand temperatures over 1,000°C for up to 10 minutes, blocking heat propagation during emergencies.

International Certifications

• UN ECE R100: Tests overcurrent protection, thermal runaway, overcharge protection, and over-temperature protection. The NEW MG URBAN meets the latest UN ECE R100 Part 2 Revision 4.
• GB 38031 (China): Covers cell, pack, and battery management system safety, including fast-charge safety, underbody impact, compression, IPX7 water immersion, salt spray, and high-altitude simulation. The NEW MG URBAN is certified to GB 38031-2025.
• TIS 3026-2563 (Thailand): MG is the first and only car brand in Thailand to receive this industrial standard for electric drive systems and vehicle structure. Models including NEW MG URBAN, NEW MG4 ELECTRIC, NEW MG S5 EV PLUS, and ALL NEW MG3 HYBRID+ are certified.
